Judging...
To acknowledge the essence of quality that embodies magnificence
Judging Philosophy
Standards will vary to the degree of personal interpretation necessary to decipher what the
guardian clubs of each breed intend. But suffice to say that one should use a conservative eye
in making evaluations outside of one’s own breed. Even then, it’s all the more important to let
the standard prevail in place of personal preference or political influence.
While God gave us an equal number of hands to eyes, it is the former that helps one “see” a
dog’s true form. A good pair of shears and carefully guided movement can fool the eye. But
once one places their fingers into a carefully quaffed coat or traces a given line, the dog’s true
structure emerges. This is why what looks like the perfect specimen from outside the ring may
not be the one to advance through the breed.
Lastly, never forget the choices made may reverberate throughout an entire breed. Select
wisely and honestly, always considering that while a master in one’s own line, we are visitors
into the work done by others. So, have good reason for each selection while resisting any claim
to perfect knowledge.
